Description
hum is a free music player that runs in your browser. Search any song or paste a playlist link and it plays, with lyrics in time and the whole page taking the colour of the cover. Flip any playlist to For you and it learns from what you finish and skip. Sync your library across devices with one code, no account. It plays through YouTube's official player, so artists still get paid. Open source (MIT), one click to host your own, and it plays inside Claude Code too.

Could you build this?
Partial The client-side UI is simple, but providing 'every song free' with synchronized lyrics and dynamic streaming legally requires licensing deals or maintaining fragile scrapers against YouTube/Spotify/LRCLIB APIs.
What it would actually take: Architecturally, it likely proxies audio from third-party sources (like YouTube streams via yt-dlp backends) and synchronizes lyrics via services like LRCLIB or Musixmatch. Operating this reliably at scale involves proxy rotation, handling DMCA/bandwidth costs, and maintaining audio streaming workers that don't get blocked by streaming providers.
