How Many Upvotes Do You Need on Product Hunt? 2026 Benchmarks From 28,000 Launches

October 14, 2026 · Nicheloom

If you are planning a Product Hunt launch, the question that matters is simple: how many upvotes do you actually need?

The short answer: on a typical day in autumn 2026, it took about 170 upvotes to finish in the top 5, about 105 for the top 10, and roughly 350 or more to take #1. The median featured launch got just 80 upvotes, and only about 4 in 100 submissions were featured at all.

Those numbers come from Nicheloom's own daily tracking of Product Hunt: 28,255 launches across 35 complete days, including 682 featured launches. Everything below says how many days and launches each figure rests on, so you can judge how far to trust it.

The numbers at a glance

Question Answer Based on
Upvotes the typical submission gets 1 28,255 launches, 35 days
Upvotes the median featured launch gets 80 682 featured launches, 20 days

Upvotes for the top 5 (median day) 169 20 days
Upvotes for the top 3 (median day) 250 20 days

Featured launches per day 34 (range 16 to 67) 20 days

How many upvotes is good on Product Hunt?

Most launches get almost nothing. Across 28,255 launches, the median was 1 upvote, and 9 in 10 finished with 3 or fewer. Only a small slice gets anywhere:

Reached at least Share of all launches
5 upvotes 7.3%
10 upvotes 4.9%
25 upvotes 3.7%
50 upvotes 3.6%
100 upvotes 1.3%
250 upvotes 0.3%

Look at the gap between 25 and 50: 3.7% versus 3.6%. Almost every launch that clears 25 upvotes also clears 50. In our data the least-upvoted featured launch had 52 votes, so in practice about 50 upvotes is what separates the featured tier from the other 96% of submissions. That is an observed pattern, not a rule we can confirm: we cannot see Product Hunt's own ranking logic.

How many upvotes do you need to reach the top 5, top 10, or #1?

We ranked every featured launch by upvotes within its launch day, then took the median across 20 complete days (September 21 to October 13, 2026). The middle half of days fell inside the range shown.

Rank Upvotes needed (median day) Typical range (middle half of days)
#1 348 315 to 455
#2 294 271 to 325
#3 250 200 to 281
#5 169 160 to 206
#10 104 98 to 118
#20 76 71 to 81
#30 68 66 to 71

The curve is steep at the top and flat at the bottom. Moving from #10 to #5 takes about 65 more upvotes, from #5 to #3 about 80 more, and from #3 to #1 about 100 more. Below #10 it flattens: a launch with around 70 upvotes sits near #25 to #30, and the bottom of the featured list is about 52.

One caution on #1. Over the longer period we have, the day's top launch looked higher: the median #1 was 477 upvotes from March to August (176 days, but only the top handful of launches per day were stored then), against 348 in the latest three weeks. Part of that gap may come from when we counted, since recent counts were captured within 18 to 42 hours of launch and final totals run a little higher. Treat the recent table as a floor, especially for #1.

Once you are featured, what are the odds of 100, 200, or 300 upvotes?

Being featured is not the same as doing well. Among 682 featured launches:

  • The median had 80 upvotes, and the bottom quarter had 68 or fewer.
  • 31% reached 100 upvotes or more.
  • 10% reached 200 or more (the 90th percentile was 203).
  • 4% reached 300 or more.
  • The highest in the period was 515.

So if you are featured, expect roughly 70 to 110 upvotes as a normal outcome. A result above 200 puts you in the top tenth of featured launches.

Which day is best to launch on Product Hunt?

We compared the weekdays using every complete day from March 9 to October 13, about 30 days for each weekday. For the top launch and the third-ranked launch of each day, here is the median upvote count, along with how crowded each day was.

Day #1 launch (median upvotes) #3 launch (median upvotes) Submissions per day Featured per day
Monday 470 301 722 22
Tuesday 583 321 1,109 36
Wednesday 588 336 842 40
Thursday 491 306 844 39
Friday 464 290 826 36
Saturday 383 243 718 32
Sunday 394 260 512 32

What stands out:

  • Tuesday and Wednesday are the biggest days. The top launch gets about 585 upvotes, around 50% more than on a weekend, and Tuesday draws the most submissions.
  • Weekends are easier to rank on. A third-place finish took roughly 60 to 90 fewer upvotes on Saturday or Sunday than midweek, and Sunday had the fewest submissions (512 versus 1,109 on Tuesday).
  • Monday and Friday sit in between.

There are two honest ways to read this. If your goal is a high rank and a badge, a weekend lowers the bar. If your goal is the largest possible audience, midweek brings more people, and also harder competition.

What this cannot tell you: whether launching on a given day causes more upvotes. Stronger launches may simply prefer Tuesday and Wednesday. We also cannot see visitors or signups, only upvotes. The submissions per day figures rest on 4 to 6 days each and the featured per day figures on 2 to 4 days each, so treat those two columns as directional.

How many launches get featured each day?

On a typical recent day there were about 830 submissions, and a median of 34 launches were featured, which is about 3.8%. The daily count varied from 16 to 67. Days outside that range were excluded as collection gaps rather than counted.

How we counted

  • Source: Product Hunt's public API, collected by Nicheloom on a daily schedule.
  • All submissions: 28,255 launches across 35 complete days between September 6 and October 13, 2026.
  • Featured launches: 682 launches across 20 complete days between September 21 and October 13, 2026. A launch counts as featured if Product Hunt reported a featured date for it.
  • Weekday comparison: from March 9 to August 31 we stored only each day's top handful of launches (176 days, 1,208 launches), so for the weekday table we used only the #1 and #3 positions, which are present in every period.
  • When votes were counted: the last refresh of each launch came 18 to 42 hours after its day began (median about 21 hours). Final totals are slightly higher.
  • Launch day: grouped by Product Hunt's launch day, which starts at 12:01 a.m. Pacific time.
  • Excluded days: 8 days where our collection was incomplete, such as a day with only one featured launch recorded.

We will refresh this analysis monthly as more days accumulate.

What to do with these numbers

  • Set a target by tier. About 70 upvotes puts you near #25 to #30, 105 gets you into the top 10, 170 into the top 5, and 250 into the top 3. Pick the tier that matches your launch list.
  • Do not judge a launch by raw upvotes alone. A featured launch with 80 upvotes is a perfectly ordinary result, and 1 upvote is the norm for submissions that are not featured.
  • Choose the day for your goal. For a high rank, weekends need fewer upvotes. For the biggest crowd, aim for Tuesday to Thursday.
  • Watch the launch day itself. Our Today page shows what launched in the last day across Product Hunt, GitHub, Hacker News and Y Combinator, and the daily newsletter summarizes it.
