Description

I built Nogic, a VSCode extension currently, because AI tools make code grow faster than developers can build a mental model by jumping between files. Exploring structure visually has been helping me onboard to unfamiliar codebases faster. It’s early and rough, but usable. Would love feedback on whether this is useful and what relationships are most valuable to visualize.

Could you build this?

Yes It is a standard VS Code extension that uses existing AST parsers to extract file dependencies and renders them via an off-the-shelf graph visualization library in a webview.

Discussion

20 comments analyzed.

Competitors mentioned: Lumyst, Sorbet, ruby-lsp with Herb

Concerns raised: Edges not displaying in some cases, Not open-sourced yet despite website up since late last year, Noise and cruft in large codebases makes visualization messy

Feature requests: Explore imports of a file and add connected files to board, Reduce noise and filter less useful details in visualization
