Description

PewCB is a laser-based desktop PCB prototyping machine that produces factory-grade boards in 10 minutes. OpenAI's latest demo showed Astra creating a device in KiCad. It may not be practical just yet, but it teases what comes next: vibe-routing. Software runs seconds after a code change; hardware still waits two weeks for a PCB. PewCB cuts prompt-to-device time from 2 weeks to 1 hour, enabling 4 iterations a day instead of 2 a month.

Could you build this?

No This is a physical hardware product involving precision laser optics, PCB fabrication chemistry, CNC motion control, and embedded firmware.

What it would actually take: Developing PewCB requires mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and laser optics design to build a desktop laser ablation/curing chassis, combined with custom embedded firmware (C/C++ on STM32/ESP32) for motor control. Additionally, it requires custom CAM/slicing software to parse KiCad/Gerber files and generate precision toolpaths, alongside industrial sourcing and hardware supply chain manufacturing.
