Description

OSHI is an encrypted messenger that keeps working when the network does not. Nearby phones relay for each other over Bluetooth mesh and LoRa, so a conversation keeps moving in airplane mode, underground, or during an outage. No phone number, no account, no SIM. One-to-one chats are end-to-end encrypted with a Double Ratchet, and you can verify any contact with a safety number. Offline maps, steganography, and an on-device AI that never sends a word off your phone. Free and open source, MIT.

Could you build this?

No Building an offline mesh messenger operating across Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and LoRa hardware with zero-setup peer routing and end-to-end encryption demands specialized systems, RF, and cryptography engineering.

What it would actually take: The app requires low-level native mobile development (iOS CoreBluetooth and Android BLE APIs) combined with external hardware interfaces for LoRa radios via serial/Bluetooth bridges. The engineering hurdles include custom ad-hoc mesh routing protocols (like B.A.T.M.A.N. or Reticulum) to route packets across intermittent multi-hop topologies, background execution limits imposed by iOS/Android, and bulletproof implementation of the Double Ratchet cryptographic protocol without centralized key servers.
