LockMic is a free, open-source menu bar app for Mac. Press Cmd+Shift+M and your mic is muted for the whole system, so Zoom, Teams, Meet and every browser hear nothing. A small HUD shows if you're muted. Press Cmd+Shift+R to record your mic and the call audio into one file on your Mac. No bot joins the call and recordings are never uploaded. It's tiny: about 0.1% CPU when idle. Works on macOS 14+.

Could you build this?
Partial A menu bar mute hotkey and recording app is vibe-codeable in Swift, but system-wide audio capture and mixing on macOS needs low-level CoreAudio or ScreenCaptureKit work and signing/permission handling that AI assistants often get wrong.
What it would actually take: Write a native Swift menu bar app using AppKit, global hotkeys, and CoreAudio to control the default input device mute state. Recording call audio requires ScreenCaptureKit or a virtual audio driver such as BlackHole-style routing, plus time-aligned mixing of mic and system streams into one file. Expertise in macOS audio internals, entitlements, notarization, and permission UX is needed to make it reliable.
