Read the full description

Knock is a shortcut app that lets you control your Mac by simply knocking on it. Tap the sides of your laptop and it runs any shortcut you want — screenshot, open apps, mute sound, and more. It uses your Mac's built-in accelerometer to actually feel the vibration of your knock and react in real time, no extra hardware needed - just knock and go.

Could you build this?

Partial The UI and shortcut-runner logic are easy, but reading the Mac's accelerometer and reliably detecting knocks is a sensor-level problem that needs low-level APIs and signal-processing tuning.

What it would actually take: A Swift/macOS app that reads the built-in accelerometer through IOKit or private sensor interfaces, then runs a filter and classifier to separate knocks from typing and movement. The hard parts are accessing the sensor on current Apple Silicon hardware (often undocumented) and tuning detection thresholds per model. Some macOS-internals and DSP experience is needed.
