Read the full description

DraftKey is a native Mac app that brings private, on-device AI autocomplete and instruction-based rewriting into most Mac apps: tap ⌘+⌥, review the change, then insert it. The model runs locally and works offline after setup, so your text is never sent to a cloud AI. It also includes ⌘⌥V clipboard history saved only on your Mac and optional mechanical keyboard sounds (requires Apple Silicon, macOS 14+, 8 GB RAM).

Could you build this?

Partial While an on-device LLM wrapper using llama.cpp or Apple MLX is accessible, building a reliable global Mac accessibility/input injector that seamlessly intercepts and replaces text across arbitrary third-party macOS apps is technically tricky.

What it would actually take: Requires a Swift macOS native app bundling llama.cpp or MLX for Apple Silicon inference, alongside macOS Accessibility APIs (AXUIElement) and CGEvent taps. The hardest part is reliably capturing selected text, context, and focus states across non-standard app UI trees (Electron, Catalyst, WebKit) without trigger delays or permission failures. It requires seasoned native macOS systems programming knowledge.
