Description

Most file sharing tools upload your files to a server first, then cap the size or ask for an account. Ferry sends them directly from one device to the other. Open it on both, scan a code or type six digits, and send. Files are end-to-end encrypted and never stored, so there is no size limit. It runs in any browser on iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows and Linux. A dropped transfer picks up where it stopped, and on the same Wi-Fi it works with no internet. Free and open source.

Could you build this?

Partial The UI and encrypted transfer flow are vibe-codeable, but reliable direct device-to-device transfer depends on NAT traversal and relay infrastructure that works across real networks.

What it would actually take: Build it on WebRTC or a custom P2P stack, with a lightweight signaling server for the six-digit pairing codes and TURN relays as fallback for restrictive networks. The hard parts are NAT traversal reliability across mobile carriers and firewalls, plus correct end-to-end encryption key exchange. This needs someone with networking and applied cryptography experience, plus relay bandwidth costs.
