Description

Print a sheet, write one letter per box, photograph it, and get an OTF, TTF, WOFF or WOFF2 font of your own handwriting. inktype straightens the photo, traces every letter and kerns the pairs from their shapes. You can tune size and spacing, add up to three versions of each letter so repeats don't look stamped, and add ligatures. Sheets for 18 languages, Latin, Cyrillic and Greek. Free, no signup, and your scans never leave your device.

Could you build this?

Partial While basic image-to-SVG tracing exists in open-source tools (like potrace), converting handwriting sheets into clean, properly kerned, multi-glyph font binaries (OTF/TTF) requires intricate vector geometry and typography algorithms.

What it would actually take: The stack would involve OpenCV or WebAssembly-compiled computer vision for document de-skewing and glyph cell extraction, Potrace for vectorization, and fonttools/opentype.js for assembling OpenType font tables. The hardest parts are automatic contour normalization (smoothing scanned noise while keeping handwriting texture) and algorithmic optical kerning pair calculations without manual metrics tables.
