Description

BashCut is a native macOS video editor built for both humans and coding agents. Every timeline operation available in the UI is also accessible through its CLI and MCP server, with atomic, undoable edits. It combines a layered timeline, captions, color grading, audio mixing, voiceover, transitions, plugins, and docked Claude Code and Codex terminals. Preview and export share one AVFoundation composition engine, so what you see is what you export.

Could you build this?

No Building a full-fledged non-linear video editor with a multi-track timeline, color grading, audio mixing, and frame-accurate agent orchestration requires deep systems and graphics programming.

What it would actually take: The stack would typically consist of native Swift/Objective-C using AVFoundation (AVMutableComposition, AVVideoComposition) and Metal/MetalKit for hardware-accelerated timeline scrubbing, transitions, and shader-based color grading. The hardest components are building a low-latency, frame-accurate compositing engine that maintains AV sync across variable frame rates while exposing an atomic, transactional state model over an MCP/CLI interface. This requires senior media systems engineers with specialized expertise in graphics pipelines and real-time audio/video processing.
