Description

SayCut turns talking videos you filmed yourself into a first edit with AI captions and cuts. Then you finish it by asking in chat: "Make the captions bigger", "Shorten the long pauses", "Keep this scene as it is". Every change shows up as a before → after card you can undo on its own, so the AI does the busywork and you make the call. Filler words removed, music ducked under your voice. Export for Reels, Shorts and TikTok. Works in English, Korean and Japanese.

Could you build this?

Partial Building the chat interface and coordinating video editing actions with an LLM is straightforward, but building a reliable automated timeline rendering engine with word-level video cutting is complex. Off-the-shelf transcription and FFmpeg wrapping make an MVP feasible, but production-grade real-time preview and non-destructive card-based rollbacks require non-trivial media engineering.

What it would actually take: The stack would combine Whisper for word-level timestamps, an LLM acting as an agent emitting JSON edit operations, and an underlying timeline engine (e.g., Remotion, WebCodecs, or FFmpeg). The hard part is building an interactive preview canvas that supports instantaneous card-level undo without expensive full re-renders, alongside smooth audio trimming without clipping clicks. Requires full-stack video engineering expertise.
