Description

StackHandoff is a peer-to-peer desktop app that lets developers continue an active workspace on another computer. It captures projects, Git branches, uncommitted changes, apps, runtimes, tools, and environment requirements as a portable manifest—then securely restores them on the destination machine. No cloud account, no central server, and every restore step is reviewed before it runs. Mac ↔ Windows, encrypted by design, open source.

Could you build this?

No Cross-machine workspace migration requires low-level OS introspection, tracking uncommitted Git state, syncing runtime environments (asdf, nvm, Docker, Homebrew), and secure peer-to-peer networking.

What it would actually take: This requires a desktop framework (Rust with Tauri or Electron) combined with native OS systems programming to introspect running processes, open editor workspaces, shell environment variables, and package manager states. It must capture dirty Git worktrees and diffs, containerized runtimes, and system binaries, while implementing encrypted P2P data transport (e.g., WebRTC, libp2p, or WireGuard) to reconstruct identical development environments across different host hardware and OS versions.
