Description

FormatPeek opens files that don't open easily anywhere else: Microsoft Project (.mpp), Outlook messages (.msg), email (.eml), Winmail.dat attachments, XPS documents, vCards (.vcf) and dBase/FoxPro (.dbf) tables — directly in your browser. No install, no account, no file library. Uploads are deleted immediately after parsing, and DBF files never leave your browser at all. Built for the moment someone sends you a file your everyday software can't open.

Could you build this?

Partial While standard web viewers are easy to build, parsing legacy binary formats (MPP, MSG, XPS, DBF, and Winmail.dat/TNEF) in-browser requires compiling complex native C/C++ format parsers to WebAssembly or running dedicated backend conversion microservices.

What it would actually take: Requires either a backend conversion pipeline running tools like LibreOffice, libmspack, and readpst or a suite of client-side WebAssembly modules compiled from C/C++ legacy file-format libraries. Handling corrupted or proprietary Microsoft compound document binaries (OLE/CFB for MSG/MPP) and rendering them accurately in DOM/Canvas demands specialized reverse-engineered file parsing expertise.
