Description

Doubao Say is an open-source GTK4 voice input app for Linux. Start dictation with a shortcut, watch the transcript appear in an overlay, and insert the final text into your current app. It supports Hyprland / Wayland and native X11, with an optional Omarchy plugin. Choose Doubao web sign-in, the official Volcengine Seed ASR 2.0 API, or Deepgram Nova-3 for US English. Recognition uses cloud services; API options require your own key. Doubao Say is an unofficial client.

Could you build this?

Partial While wrapping speech-to-text APIs is simple, building a native GTK4 application with deep Wayland/Hyprland and X11 compositor integration (virtual keyboard input, global hotkeys, window overlay injection) requires specialized Linux desktop development.

What it would actually take: A production version requires Rust/C/Python bindings for GTK4/libadwaita and Wayland protocols (wlr-foreign-toplevel, zwp_virtual_keyboard_v1) along with X11 fallback via XTest. Global shortcut handling across disparate Wayland compositors (Hyprland, GNOME) requires custom IPC or desktop portal integrations, combined with streaming audio capture and low-latency transcription backends.
