Description

Psst is a shared shopping list. The useful part is that it remembers what you paid. Photograph a receipt and the lines come back structured, each one showing a crop of the row it came from and what that item cost last time, and where. Most of the work went into not saying so when it isn't sure. Two prices in different units are never compared, and comparison is on unit price, not the line total: buying 2kg instead of 1kg is not a price rise. iOS and Android.

Could you build this?

Partial The UI and collaborative shopping list are straightforward, but high-precision receipt parsing with bounding-box row cropping and accurate price attribution requires complex computer vision / OCR heuristics.

What it would actually take: The backend needs an OCR and document-layout pipeline (e.g. AWS Textract, Google Cloud Document AI, or custom Donut/LayoutLM models) capable of extracting tabular data from skewed, folded receipts with spatial coordinates. The system must crop specific bounding boxes around line items, reconcile item names against historical price databases via fuzzy matching or vector embeddings, and implement strict confidence thresholds to prevent false extractions.
