Description

Most Dota drafting apps make you type hero names one by one while the pick timer runs down. Dota Addiction reads the entire draft through your camera in one look: point your phone at the screen and you get ranked counter picks and per-position item builds in seconds. The part I haven't seen elsewhere: link your Dota profile and the app tracks whether our picks actually won you games. Advice that grades itself. No account, no login. Recognition is server-side, so it improves with no update.

Could you build this?

Partial Fetching counterpicks and builds via public APIs like STRATZ is simple, but reliably detecting 10 Dota hero portraits from a phone camera pointed at a monitor requires a trained computer vision pipeline.

What it would actually take: The system requires an object detection model (such as a fine-tuned YOLOv8 or CNN classifier) trained on an annotated dataset of Dota 2 hero icons photographed under varied angles, screen glare, and moiré patterns. A mobile client captures frames and streams them to an inference server (FastAPI with ONNX Runtime or Triton), which outputs hero IDs to fetch statistical counterpick matrices from the STRATZ GraphQL and OpenDota APIs.
