Description

Fusion 360 and Blender don't talk to each other well. STEP/OBJ exports only carry geometry, so every revision means redoing materials and modifiers from scratch. This add-in pair syncs the two apps over localhost instead, so geometry updates without touching what you built in Blender.

Could you build this?

Partial While small scripts for Blender and Fusion exist, creating a robust two-way live bridge that preserves mesh topology, UV maps, modifiers, and materials across revisions requires specialized knowledge of 3D data formats and CAD APIs.

What it would actually take: The architecture consists of an Autodesk Fusion 360 Python API add-in and a Blender Python add-on communicating over local WebSockets or named pipes. The core difficulty lies in preserving material assignments, vertex groups, and modifier stacks when the incoming B-Rep/NURBS geometry is re-tessellated and updated. It requires deep knowledge of 3D graphics geometry, mesh diffing algorithms, and both host software APIs.
