Description

Most repair tools are a black box: file in, file out, no idea what changed. This one opens the Excel, Word or PowerPoint file, checks every part against ECMA-376, and shows the exact fault: the XML with a caret on it and the cell or slide it damages. It catches what AI-generated files get wrong: numbers stored as text, formulas whose saved answer is false, XLOOKUP that shows #NAME? on older Excel. No file comes back unless the Open XML SDK accepts it. Free, no account.

Could you build this?

Partial A web interface for uploading files is trivial, but parsing, validating, and rebuilding corrupt OpenXML ZIP archives strictly against the ECMA-376 specification without Microsoft Office installed requires deep low-level format knowledge.

What it would actually take: The architecture would combine a backend (likely .NET or Rust) utilizing the Open XML SDK and custom binary/ZIP repair routines. The hard part is low-level ECMA-376 schema repair, such as fixing broken XML trees, rebuilding package relationships (.rels), and repairing raw byte offsets in corrupt ZIP containers while passing validation checks. This requires deep systems programming and OpenXML specification mastery.
