Description

Clipzen is a one-payment desktop app that turns long videos into short vertical ones. It transcribes the recording, picks the moments worth posting, and edits each into a finished short (follows the active speaker, cuts the filler, adds word-synced subtitles, b-roll and background music). The built-in AI runs on your own machine and is completely free. You can also plug in an OpenAI key instead, from about $0.03 per hour of video.

Could you build this?

Partial The desktop UI and transcript editor can be vibe-coded, but local AI-driven active-speaker face tracking, dynamic 9:16 reframing, and smooth timeline rendering on consumer hardware require deep multimedia engineering.

What it would actually take: The app would likely use an Electron or Tauri shell communicating with a C++/Python backend utilizing FFmpeg, Whisper.cpp for on-device transcription, and OpenCV/MediaPipe for face detection and diarization. The core challenge is real-time audio-visual active speaker tracking to dynamically reframe widescreen video into vertical format without visual jitter, alongside hardware-accelerated video rendering that works reliably across varying Windows GPU configurations. This requires expertise in computer vision, digital video pipelines, and desktop systems engineering.
