Description

Finder shows your folder path but won't let you type into it. Pathsta makes that path bar editable: click it, type or paste a folder path, and press Return to go there. It follows your active Finder window, completes folder names with Tab and can create a missing folder with Shift-Return. Free and open source. For Apple silicon Macs running macOS 27 or later.

Could you build this?

Partial Interacting with and augmenting native macOS Finder windows requires reverse-engineering private Apple APIs, macOS Accessibility APIs, and deep AppKit/Swift systems programming.

What it would actually take: A real build requires Swift/Objective-C using macOS Accessibility APIs (AXUIElement) or code injection (Mach message hooking) to monitor Finder's focused window and window hierarchy in real time. The difficult part is synchronizing an external floating HUD or injected control to native Finder windows smoothly without crashing or triggering macOS security permissions failures. It requires specialized knowledge of macOS desktop internals and AppleScript/OSA scripting.
