Description

Synczipr solves the infamous "Disk Full" error when unpacking massive files. Traditional extractors require enough disk capacity for both the original archive AND the extracted files simultaneously. Synczipr eliminates this storage overhead at the byte level. How it works: Using a stream-based extraction engine, it decompresses files sequentially. Synczipr immediately eliminates the consumed portion of the original archive by employing sparse-file hole punching as each chunk is extracted.

Could you build this?

No Manipulating compressed file streams on-disk at the byte level to extract while truncating or consuming the source archive requires low-level systems programming and deep knowledge of filesystem internals and archive format specs.

What it would actually take: A production version requires low-level languages like Rust or C/C++ interfacing with OS-specific filesystem system calls (such as fallocate with punch hole support, or sparse file manipulation). It requires writing custom streaming decompression routines for formats like zip, tar, or 7z that progressively deallocate archive byte blocks on disk as files are written. This needs systems-level systems engineering and deep algorithmic familiarity with compression standards and cross-platform filesystem drivers.
