Description

Answer seven questions about where you shop, who eats at home, what nobody will touch, what equipment you have and how much you want to spend. Racion returns seven days of dishes, the price of each one at your supermarket, and a single shopping list counted in whole packs rather than grams. Prices come from national statistics moved by a chain index, so Aldi and Rewe differ. 1963 recipes, 38 collections, 22 countries, 15 languages. Free, no signup, AGPL on GitHub.

Could you build this?

Partial While the questionnaire UI, recipe curation, and LLM-based meal planning are easy to build, real-time pricing and stock mapping to specific local supermarket pack sizes requires extensive scraping pipelines or commercial grocery API integrations.

What it would actually take: The architecture requires Next.js for the frontend and questionnaire flow, coupled with background workers (Celery/Temporal) managing supermarket integrations or scrapers for specific grocery chains (e.g., Pyppeteer/Playwright). The hard part is catalog mapping: normalizing unstructured grocery catalog items, packaging units, and live localized pricing across supermarket chains. Building this requires robust data ingestion pipelines and continual maintenance against retail anti-bot systems.
