Description

Lupo is an ambitious take on bridging the analog world with the digital. Instead of applying a regular filter over the photo that you take, Lupo is built on physically accurate film emulsion simulation. Each of the eight films pay homage to the classics of film photography and their characteristics have been carefully mapped out. But, above all, Lupo is about being deliberate and really thinking about the pictures that you are taking.

Could you build this?

No Physically accurate film emulsion simulation requires deep domain expertise in computational photography, color science, photochemistry modeling, and custom GPU shader programming (Metal).

What it would actually take: Building this requires iOS/Swift with custom Metal compute and render shaders to simulate light diffusion, grain physics, non-linear sensitometric characteristic curves, and dye-layer interactions directly on RAW camera sensor data. The hardest parts are deriving mathematically sound physical models of silver halide reactions and calibration against physical film stocks. It demands an engineer with deep color science and low-level computer graphics expertise.
