Description

Running Claude Code, Codex, and other AI CLIs side by side, I kept hitting two problems: an agent quits mid-task, and sub-agents fudge their status reports. Polter is a Ghostty fork with an MCP layer where one AI CLI supervises the others — opening tabs, assigning tasks, and reading their screens. Workers report into a group chat and shared task list. If a worker stalls, the supervisor is notified; if the supervisor goes quiet, Polter nudges it too. Fully offline, no accounts, MIT licensed.

Could you build this?

Partial While wrapping terminal emulators is possible, forking and modifying a complex terminal codebase like Ghostty (written in Zig) to hook into PTY buffers, coordinate IPC, and manage automated screen reading robustly is technically demanding.

What it would actually take: A production version requires modifying terminal internals (typically C or Zig) to expose deterministic terminal state, escape sequence capture, and headless screen buffers via a custom RPC/MCP protocol. The supervisory logic needs reliable ANSI parsing, automated terminal session multiplexing, and robust prompt/error detection without hallucinating terminal state.
