Description

Textlift pulls the text out of screenshots, photos, scans and PDFs and keeps the layout — columns stay columns, tables stay tables. It works fully offline: the recognition data ships inside the app, so nothing you scan ever leaves your computer and there are no network requests at all. A one-time purchase on the Microsoft Store, not a subscription.

Could you build this?

Partial While wrapping an offline OCR engine like Tesseract in a desktop app is easy, accurately reconstructing tables and multi-column document layouts purely offline requires complex document layout analysis models.

What it would actually take: Built typically using C#/WPF or Electron/Tauri with an embedded offline OCR and layout analysis engine (such as PaddleOCR or ONNX-quantized Table Transformer models). The critical engineering hurdle is reading bounding boxes and running robust heuristic/spatial clustering algorithms or specialized layout neural nets to accurately preserve cell spans and table structures entirely on-device without cloud layout APIs.
