Description

UI-Atlas is an open-source, offline-first toolkit for building evidence-backed maps of desktop interfaces. It captures surfaces, controls, states, actions, transitions, and lineage to observed evidence. The maps can support agents, testing, accessibility, automation, and security or governance systems that need to understand what is being acted on. UI-Atlas maps the interface; it does not enforce policy or execute workflows.

Could you build this?

No Mapping desktop UI hierarchies, controls, and dynamic state transitions offline requires deep systems-level accessibility hooks, platform-specific UI Automation APIs, and advanced computer vision.

What it would actually take: The architecture requires OS-level drivers and accessibility APIs (e.g., Windows UI Automation / macOS AXUIElement / Linux AT-SPI) combined with custom screen recording and computer vision models (like object detection and OCR on UI controls). The core challenge is maintaining state machine lineage and determinism across dynamic renders, custom graphics canvases, and anti-scraping protections. This necessitates senior systems engineers and computer vision specialists capable of handling platform-specific native runtimes.
