Description

When building Hookie, I worked with NATS Jetstream a lot. While you can do everything using the CLI, I prefer the feeling of a nice GUI better. So I built one.

Could you build this?

Partial While an electron/Tauri GUI for broker management is straightforward to scaffold, building a low-latency native desktop app that reliably connects to Kafka and NATS JetStream protocols with high-throughput stream consumption, offset management, and virtualized high-volume rendering requires solid systems programming.

What it would actually take: The stack uses Tauri or native Swift paired with a Rust core leveraging `rdkafka` and `async-nats`. The hard engineering parts involve handling high-throughput backpressure between the Rust broker core and frontend UI, seamless virtual scrolling for millions of streaming records, and edge-case broker authentication (SASL/TLS, mTLS, Keychain integration).
