Most PDF compressors shrink a file by rendering pages to images, which quietly deletes the text layer. MillFile repacks the document structure first: a 6-page text PDF went from 298.7 KB to 8.9 KB with all 26,652 characters still selectable. It also converts camera RAW to JPG. Everything runs in your browser - no upload, no account, no subscription - and the source is MIT open source.

Yes The core is PDF manipulation and RAW-to-JPG conversion, which can run client-side using existing libraries such as qpdf or pdf-lib compiled to WASM. Preserving the text layer while shrinking the file is a known technique, not novel research.
