What it would actually take: A legitimate substitute would be a new personal finance app built from scratch, which needs bank data aggregation through a provider such as Plaid, secure credential handling, and accounting logic for categories, budgets and reconciliation. Those data-access agreements and financial-compliance requirements are the real barriers. Replicating the existing Quicken product means reproducing or defeating its licensing, which is not something to pursue.
