Partial One-to-one chat, friend requests, and bottle-message threads are standard real-time CRUD that a solo builder can ship quickly. Keeping anonymous adult strangers safe through moderation and abuse handling is the hard part.
What it would actually take: Use WebSockets with a lightweight backend and a database for threads and messages, with anonymous browser sessions and no app. The real work is moderation at scale: automated classifiers for text, reporting and blocking flows, age-gating, and abuse-response processes. Trust-and-safety expertise and moderation staffing are needed as usage grows.
