BrainShield

Block Reels, Shorts and adult sites, but keep your apps

I'd open Instagram to answer one message and lose 40 minutes to Reels. Deleting the app meant losing my DMs, and app timers took one tap to dismiss. BrainShield blocks the feed and leaves the rest of the app alone. Reels and Shorts disappear, but your DMs and regular videos still work. It can also block adult sites across the whole phone. It also has a Pomodoro timer and a minimal home screen. There's no account, and blocking happens on your phone.

Could you build this?

Partial Blocking Reels and Shorts while keeping the rest of the app working is buildable on Android, but it depends on fragile, app-specific UI detection that breaks with each app update.

What it would actually take: The core is an Android accessibility service or content-filtering layer that recognizes feed and Reels screens within Instagram, YouTube, and similar apps and hides them. The hard part is maintaining detection heuristics against frequent app UI changes, and iOS offers no equivalent in-app control, so a real cross-platform version needs ongoing reverse engineering and maintenance effort.
