I built ThriftyOwl because I missed Microsoft Money. It’s a cloud-based household finance app: import your Money file, then track every account, budget by category, schedule recurring bills and forecast your balance weeks or months ahead. Reconcile against statements, plan “what if” scenarios, and share with a partner (Pro). Works in any browser, no bank login needed. Free for up to 2 accounts, with a 14-day Pro trial.

Could you build this?

Partial Budgeting, account tracking, bill scheduling and forecasting are standard CRUD and UI work that vibe coding handles well. The hard parts are parsing the undocumented Microsoft Money (.mny) file format and automating statement reconciliation.

What it would actually take: Build a web app (for example React plus a Postgres backend) with double-entry ledger tables, recurring-transaction scheduling and a forecasting engine. The hard piece is the .mny importer, which requires reverse engineering the legacy Jet/MDB-style binary format or a community parser. Statement reconciliation needs CSV/OFX/QFX parsing and likely fuzzy matching or OCR for PDFs, so it benefits from someone with finance-data experience.
