Read the full description

Tabtify turns audio files, recordings, video links and MIDI into editable guitar, bass and ukulele tabs. The AI writes a draft; you play it back next to the original audio, fix notes and frets in a browser tab editor, and export to Guitar Pro, MIDI, PDF or MusicXML. Clean recordings of one instrument give the closest drafts; full band mixes need more cleanup. The editor, Guitar Pro import, exports and practice tools are free; AI conversion is a paid plan.

Could you build this?

Partial The browser tab editor, playback sync, and export formats are vibe-codeable, but turning audio into accurate guitar tabs needs a real music transcription model whose quality is hard to reach without specialized audio ML work.

What it would actually take: The stack would be a web editor (for example, a React-based tab editor with synced audio playback) plus export libraries for Guitar Pro, MIDI, MusicXML, and PDF. The hard part is the transcription pipeline: source separation, pitch and onset detection, and mapping notes to playable fret positions, which needs audio ML expertise and training or tuning on labelled guitar data. Existing open models (such as Basic Pitch) can serve as a starting point, but competitive accuracy requires ML engineering and a dataset.
