Description

Built this after dealing with overlapping cron jobs that quietly exhausted server resources. The cron daemon will happily spawn multiple copies of your script simultaneously until your server runs out of memory — with no warning. Paste your crontab (supports standard crontab -l format), and it shows a 24-hour timeline with overlap detection, Server Load Warnings, and human-readable job descriptions. No signup. No data leaves your browser. Everything runs client-side. Would love feedback from anyone who runs cron jobs in prod. https://configclarity.dev

Could you build this?

Yes A crontab parser and timeline visualizer can be built in a weekend with standard JavaScript cron-parsing libraries and a chart/Gantt UI.

Discussion

13 comments analyzed.

Competitors mentioned: Airflow, Temporal, systemd timers, lockfiles

Concerns raised: Only handles single-host overlaps, not multi-host cron scenarios, Lockfiles are opt-in and people forget to implement them, Client-side only approach may not catch all edge cases, Most teams don't notice overlaps until production breaks

Feature requests: Multi-host overlap detection across multiple servers, Scheduler-level prevention to enforce before job runs, Integration with existing wrapper scripts to reduce boilerplate
