Paperwren is a small document app for Android and Windows. It opens PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, EPUB, Markdown and more, and it does the PDF jobs people usually upload to websites: fill and sign, merge, split, scan paper, add a password. No internet, no account, no ads. The Android app asks for zero permissions.

Could you build this?

Partial The fill, sign, merge, split, and password tools are vibe-codeable with PDF libraries, but opening and faithfully rendering Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files offline on Android and Windows is a hard, fidelity-sensitive document-engine problem.

What it would actually take: The app needs a PDF engine (PDFium or MuPDF) for rendering and editing, plus office-format parsers and layout engines for DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX, which are very difficult to reproduce faithfully. Native Android and Windows builds and offline scanning/OCR add more work. A solo builder can reach a usable version by leaning on existing libraries, but matching the fidelity of Office and PDF tools requires document-format specialists.
