Could you build this?
No A Wayland compositor written in Rust with Vulkan-native rendering, device-agnostic desktop core, and KMS frame scheduling is systems-level graphics work that requires deep expertise in display servers and GPU drivers.
What it would actually take: This requires building on Wayland protocol libraries (such as smithay or wlroots-style foundations) and implementing a Vulkan rendering backend, DRM/KMS atomic modesetting, and per-frame scheduling with real-time timing guarantees. Testing needs multiple GPU and display hardware, and the work demands experienced compositor and graphics engineers, which is why the project is still in its rewrite stage.
