Could you build this?

Partial A basic self-hosted Git server with a web UI can be vibe-coded by wrapping the git binary and its smart HTTP protocol. A fast, native implementation of Git's protocol and pack format is much harder.

What it would actually take: The practical approach is a Rust (Axum or Actix) server that shells out to git-http-backend and adds auth, repo management, and a web UI for browsing code. A fully native implementation requires understanding pack-file encoding, the wire protocol, and SSH transport, which is specialized systems work. Scaling and security hardening add further difficulty.
