Could you build this?
No Hardware FPGA core development to emulate the original Sony PlayStation requires expert-level digital circuit design in Verilog/VHDL, cycle-accurate timing, and deep reverse-engineering knowledge of custom ASICs.
What it would actually take: Building an openFPGA core for the PlayStation requires writing cycle-accurate HDL (SystemVerilog/VHDL) for the MIPS R3000A CPU, custom Geometry Transformation Engine (GTE), Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), CD-ROM controller, and SPU sound chip. It requires hardware debugging tools, logic analyzers, and specialized FPGA engineering skills targeting the Analogue Pocket or MiSTer platforms.
