Partial Browser-side PDF and Word redaction UI is buildable, but reliable PII detection in scanned images and true removal of underlying text are harder than simple black boxes.
What it would actually take: A real version needs PDF parsing and rewriting (pdf.js / pdf-lib) that truly strips redacted text and metadata, plus OCR (Tesseract or similar) and PII detection (regex plus NER models) for images and scans. The hard part is accuracy: missed PII is a serious failure, so testing against varied documents and some privacy-engineering judgment are needed.
