Description

GitHub: https://github.com/Sportinger/MasterSelectsI built this Browser-based video compositor with a GPU-first architecture. No Canvas 2D in the rendering path — video textures go in as texture_external (zero-copy), compositing runs through a ping-pong WGSL shader pipeline, and export captures frames directly from the GPU canvas via WebCodecs.39 GPU effects, 37 blend modes, nested compositions, keyframe animation with bezier curves, vector masks, 10-band live EQ, video scopes, and AI-driven editing via GPT function calling. 13 production dependencies. The compositor, all shaders, timeline, audio mixer, mask engine, and export pipeline are built from scratch.I'm a video artist, not a developer. Built this entirely with Claude. Things break, but when it works, it works.Chrome/safari with WebGPU required. Firefox and webGPU have problems.

Could you build this?

No Building a real-time GPU video compositor using raw WebGPU WGSL ping-pong shaders, custom video texture pipelines, audio stem separation, and 3D Gaussian splatting requires deep graphics engineering expertise.

What it would actually take: The application requires an advanced graphics rendering pipeline written in TypeScript, WebGPU, and raw WGSL shaders for multi-layer compositing, blend modes, and color grading without DOM/Canvas bottlenecks. It also requires complex browser media pipelines involving WebCodecs, Web Audio API DSP nodes, custom WebAssembly workers for audio stem separation / speech transcription, and a 3D rasterization pipeline (e.g., Gaussian splatting and mesh rendering).

Competitors mentioned: Kdenlive

Concerns raised: Firefox doesn't support WebGPU fully, WebGPU not available in all browsers

Feature requests: Native version using Tauri, Support for more codecs beyond WebCodecs
