Hearba is an open-source macOS beta for meeting transcription and hold-to-talk dictation. On-device speech recognition keeps transcription local; learned corrections carry into future meetings and dictation. Review, search and export sessions. Optional cloud LLMs require your own API key. Currently build from source; no downloadable installer yet. Requires macOS 14.2+ and Apple Silicon.

Partial The macOS UI, hold-to-talk hotkey, session storage, and correction-learning are vibe-codeable, but reliable on-device transcription with diarization and good streaming accuracy is a hard speech-engineering problem.
What it would actually take: Build a native Swift/SwiftUI app that captures audio with AVFoundation and runs an on-device ASR model such as whisper.cpp or Apple's Speech framework, with a global hotkey and local SQLite storage. The hard parts are tuning real-time transcription latency and accuracy, speaker separation for meetings, and designing the correction-learning loop so it improves output without retraining a model. This needs audio/ML engineering experience and macOS permission and entitlement handling.
