Could you build this?
No This project requires physical hardware integration, custom enclosure fabrication, and embedded peripheral wiring between a Raspberry Pi, camera module, and thermal printer.
What it would actually take: The hardware uses a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W running Linux, connected via CSI to a camera module and via serial/USB to an ESC/POS thermal printer inside a custom 3D-printed enclosure. A local Python daemon reads hardware button states via GPIO, captures frames, calls cloud diffusion APIs (Modal, OpenAI, Gemini), dither-processes the output to 1-bit monochrome, and formats ESC/POS commands to print the receipt paper.
Discussion
5 comments analyzed.
Competitors mentioned: Instagen, OnyxStream library, OnnxStream, Jetson
Concerns raised: Cloud dependency for inference, Limited capability of running diffusion models on Raspberry Pi, High power draw with certain hardware options, Device cost constraints, Current spikes from thermal printer requiring capacitor protection
Feature requests: BYOK or proxy requests to home machine with powerful GPU, On-device inference without cloud provider, img2img support for lightweight models, Style transfer capabilities on low-power devices, Coral TPU integration for accelerated inference

Same idea, different domain
Nobody's really built a content generation tool for Government yet.
