Could you build this?

Yes The app is a mobile client combining a standard vision AI API for species recognition with gamification mechanics (cards, XP, and leaderboards) that can be easily implemented with modern app frameworks and Supabase.

Discussion

20 comments analyzed.

Competitors mentioned: Merlin (bird identification app), iNaturalist, Seek by iNaturalist, eBird

Concerns raised: Location data enables poaching of endangered animals, Encourages dangerous visitor behavior in wildlife parks, Unreliable species identification compared to expert review, Global leaderboard incentivizes reckless behavior and trampling ecosystems, Overlaps significantly with existing Seek app

Feature requests: Top trumps-style stat system for species comparison, Mini-games to showcase and use rare finds, Replace global leaderboard with friends/contacts-only leaderboard, Focus on common local wildlife instead of endangered species
