Description

hidane replaces the official Cloud Firestore emulator with a single Rust binary: no JDK, a 5.5 ms start, 7.4 MiB idle. It speaks gRPC, REST and WebChannel, enforces Security Rules, and runs under firebase-tools, where Firestore-triggered Cloud Functions fire as with the official emulator (new in v0.4). Parity is measured, not claimed: hidane's tests replay 20,224 answers recorded from the official emulator, and firebase-js-sdk's own browser suite passes.

Could you build this?

No Re-implementing a high-performance Cloud Firestore emulator in Rust requires reimplementing gRPC/REST/WebChannel network protocols, an in-memory document database engine, and a custom interpreter/parser for Firestore Security Rules.

What it would actually take: A developer would need to write a Rust server using Tonic (gRPC) and Tokio, implement Firestore's precise wire protocols, build an internal B-tree or document index engine, and develop an AST interpreter matching Google CEL/Firestore security rules execution semantics, along with handling Cloud Event trigger lifecycle hooks.
