Description

Born out of my frustration with powershell’s slow startup and confusing syntax I have long wanted to build a shell and scripting language in .NET. I have been working on it for a long time and thanks to Claude, I was able to finally get it over the line. I daily drive it as my shell on Windows, and really happy with it so far. Please try it and let me know where it can improve!

Could you build this?

Partial A basic CLI wrapper or scripting language can be guided by AI, but building a fully featured, high-performance interactive shell with custom typing, job control, and terminal emulation in .NET is non-trivial.

What it would actually take: The architecture requires a lexer, parser, type checker, and bytecode/interpreter compiler in .NET, along with a custom Read-Eval-Print Loop (REPL) handling VT100 ANSI sequences, autocompletion, and syntax highlighting. The hard parts are OS process management (pipes, redirection, signals, and background/foreground job control across Windows and POSIX) and typed pipeline semantics. This requires solid expertise in compiler construction and cross-platform operating system internals.
