Description

I like to print, but I'm no artist. So I though of turning the full pipeline of my text -> concept images -> 3D mesh -> postprocess for the specific 3D printing workflow -> order it online into a nice UI. You can obv. also just download the STL and print it yourself!

Could you build this?

Partial The web app UI wrapping image/3D generation APIs is simple, but converting arbitrary meshes into printable, manifold, watertight STLs with slicing validation and print-on-demand fulfillment requires specialized 3D geometry processing.

What it would actually take: Needs a backend pipeline using libraries like OpenSCAD, PyVista, or Trimesh for mesh repair (fixing non-manifold edges, wall thickness analysis, orienting geometry) followed by integration with 3D print fulfillment APIs (like Shapeways or Craftcloud). AI models generate low-poly or noisy meshes that routinely fail physical printability tests without dedicated geometric repair algorithms.

Discussion

5 comments analyzed.

Competitors mentioned: Temporal.io, SolidWorks, OnShape, OpenClaw system

Concerns raised: UI is flaky and keeps chasing the solution, Orchestration relies fully on Opus, making it unreliable, Setup complexity (Temporal is a PITA to set up), Print output may differ from original 3D mesh

Feature requests: Show support placement preview before committing, Stricter workflows for different physical product types, Articulated statues with in-place printed hinges, CAD precision for enclosures and component fitting, Visualization of parts that will change from original mesh
