Description

Against my better judgment I could not stop building a Swift + WebAssembly frontend framework and just kicked a 0.1 out the door.GitHub: https://github.com/elementary-swift/elementary-uiI understand there is a lot of skepticism around Wasm for general frontend work, but I think this can actually be pretty cool - heck, even a viable solution. Especially combined with Embedded Swift - which is still a bit rough, but you can fit little web apps in under 200 kB (compressed). The link contains a "Get Started" section with a template repo, you can try it out in minutes. What are we thinking?

Could you build this?

No Developing a novel declarative frontend framework in Swift that compiles to WebAssembly with custom reactivity and animation systems requires deep compiler, runtime, and language internals knowledge.

What it would actually take: Requires deep familiarity with Embedded Swift, the WebAssembly System Interface (WASI), LLVM tooling, and DOM manipulation via JS/Wasm bridges. The developer must build custom property wrappers, a virtual DOM or fine-grained reactive reconciliation engine, and build-tool plugins (e.g., Vite/Rollup Wasm pipelines) from the ground up.
