Could you build this?
Partial A basic desktop image viewer with local AI enhancement can be vibe-coded, but building a true Lightroom alternative with non-destructive RAW processing pipelines and color science is highly complex.
What it would actually take: A real Adobe Lightroom alternative requires high-performance RAW decoding (LibRaw), a GPU-accelerated non-destructive image processing pipeline (Vulkan, Metal, or WebGPU), and embedded local ML models (CoreML/ONNX) for segmentation and demosaicing. It requires expertise in digital signal processing, color spaces (ACES, ProPhoto RGB), and native UI responsiveness under multi-gigabyte memory loads.

Competitors mentioned: Adobe Lightroom, darktable, nobloatpdf, Adobe After Effects, MuPDF
Concerns raised: Legal risks of AI clean-room reverse engineering, Potential Adobe design patent infringement, Vibe-coded apps are rough around the edges, Theft of labor from original creators, Missing Lightroom features (print, book, map, tethering)
