Description

Hi HN, author here.I built Tylax because I wanted to migrate my old LaTeX papers to Typst but found existing regex-based scripts too fragile for nested environments.Tylax parses LaTeX into an AST (using mitex-parser) and converts it to Typst code. It supports: - Full document structure (not just math snippets) - Complex math (matrices, integrals) - Experimental TikZ -> CeTZ graphics conversion - Runs in browser via WASMRepo: https://github.com/scipenai/tylax Web Demo: https://convert.silkyai.cn/Happy to answer any questions!

Could you build this?

Yes By leveraging an existing AST parser (`mitex-parser`), transmuting the syntax tree from LaTeX to Typst in Rust is a well-defined compiler translation task that AI models excel at generating.

Discussion

9 comments analyzed.

Competitors mentioned: Pandoc, LaTeX macro expansion tools, TeX engine/interpreter

Concerns raised: Cannot handle loops or recursive functions without full runtime execution, Nested macro parameters cause expansion bugs, Theoretically impossible to achieve perfect conversion without Turing-complete execution, Pandoc produces messy, non-idiomatic output that's hard to share with coauthors, Edge cases with mutual recursion and chained macro expansion

Feature requests: Graceful fallback for macro expansion depth limits (preserve arguments instead of discarding), Support for recursive functions and Typst scripting constructs, Better handling of complex nested parameters in macros, TikZ to CeTZ conversion

Other products that read as similar to this one — 108 launches clear the similarity bar, closest 8 shown.

Attention rank: #49 of 109 (itself plus its competitors, highest first — normalized so YC and Product Hunt are compared fairly).
